白洋淀曾有“北国江南”的说法，但村舍的形制自具特色，与江南截然不同。南方多雨，屋顶是坡顶；这里的村舍则不同，屋顶是晒粮食的地方，而且历史上淀里每逢水大洪泛，村民就得把屋里的东西搬到屋顶上。房屋彼此挨得很近，有些屋顶几乎相连。

白洋淀，位于河北省雄安新区境内，是整个海河平原上最大的湖泊，白洋淀是两条河在这里交汇形成的，到现在为止，还有大大小小一百多个淀，作为一个完全建在水上的景区，确实在广袤的北方大地之上堪称是“北国江南”。

词汇分析
1.白洋淀：
《新汉英大辞典》中把白洋淀翻译为”Baiyang Lake”,张培基先生在《张培基英译散文选》中把白洋淀翻译为“Bai-yang Lake”,戴乃迭曾翻译过孙犁先生的《荷花淀》，书名译作“Lotus Creek”,这里选用“The Baiyang Lake”。

3.北国江南：
可以直接译作“Northern Jiangnan”，其中“江南”在新世纪汉英大词典中的解释为：south of the Yangtze River.例句：春风又绿江南岸：Spring breezes bring greenness to the south of the Yangtze River again.这里边的解释把江南当作地理位置来看待，而文中语境下的“江南”是江南水乡，所以用直译，然后在后边用“literally the southern type of water town in the North”来补充解释。
4.坡顶
“坡顶”表示形状，意为倾斜的房顶，这里“倾斜的”可以用 “sloping” 或 “slanting” 表示，“坡顶”译为 “sloping roofs” 。
5.晒粮食
在新世纪汉英大词典中“晒粮食”翻译为“dry grain in the sun"。

Baiyangdian once had the name of "Jiangnan in the north", but the design and construction of the cottages have their own characteristics, which is quite different from Jiangnan’s (the south of the Yangtze River). It is rainy in the south, and their roofs are slope top; but the cottages here are different. The roofs here are used for drying grain in the sun. According to historical records, every time when there came a flood, the villagers had to move the objects in the house to the roof. The houses are close to each other, and some roofs are almost connected.

The Bai-yang Lake was once known as “Northern Jiangnan”, literally the southern type of water town in the North. But the design and construction of the cottages here have their distinctive features, which are quite different from the village houses in the south of China. Village houses in the south have sloping roofs to stand the rainy weather, while the cottages here have flat roofs to dry grain in the sun. And, every time the water flooded, the villagers had to move belongings in the room onto the roof. These cottages are so close to each other that some are almost connected.
