那么BI到底是什么呢？
商业智能BI可以实现业务流程和业务数据的规范化、流程化、标准化，打通ERP、OA、CRM等不同业务信息系统，整合归纳企业数据，利用数据可视化满足企业不同人群对数据查询、分析和探索的需求，从而为管理和业务提供数据依据和决策支持。
将商业智能BI核心内容进行总结，大致有三条：
第一，商业智能BI是一套完整的由数据仓库、查询报表、数据分析等组成的数据类技术解决方案。
第二，商业智能BI可以将企业不同业务系统（ ERP、OA）中的数据库打通并进行有效的整合。这个打通和整合的过程就包括ETL、取数、数据仓库、指标维度等。
第三，商业智能BI最终利用合适的查询和分析工具快速准确地提供可视化分析以及报表，为企业提供管理决策信息。
如果还是不太理解商业智能BI是什么，商业智能BI其实可以总结划分为不同应用层：
商业智能BI的应用第一层，可视化分析展现层 - 即商业智能BI的需求层，代表用户的分析需求，也就是用户要看什么，要分析什么就在这一层进行展现。
商业智能BI的应用第二层，数据模型层 - 即商业智能BI的数据仓库层，代表数据的分析模型，完成从业务计算规则向数据计算规则的转变。
商业智能BI的应用第三层，数据源层 - 即商业智能BI的数据层，各个业务系统底层数据库的数据通过 ETL 的方式抽取到商业智能BI的数据仓库中完成 ETL 过程，建模分析等等，最终支撑到前端的可视化分析展现。
